Amazon’s FRESH is the first brick-and-mortar grocery store that Amazon recently opened in Woodland Hills, California. With this supermarket, Amazon aims to combine various elements. These include micro-fulfillment, contactless features, a curated assortment of premium, and conventional products. Highly personalized service into one single store will also be a priority.
All in all, Amazon has set out to create the ultimate advanced and tech-savvy supermarket.
Innovative Features of Amazon’s FRESH
With Fresh, Amazon combines 365 products from the popular Whole Foods Market’s private label and local favorites with mainstream grocery items like Coca-cola and Kraft Mac and Cheese. The store is furnished with technology through and through. This includes Alexa’s informative search and dash Cart checkout-free system. Technology like this will allow shoppers to easily find the locations of any product they wish to find. This technology is making things easier, but also at the same time replacing human intervention and thereby eliminating human jobs.
Sylvain Perrier, president, and CEO of Mercatus Technologies Inc commented on Amazon’s first store. He said, “Amazon is starting to realize that in the world of food, it’s not all about to buy online/deliver to the home. There are elements where it’s strategically advantageous to have a grocery store fulfill for groceries, do curbside pickup, and leverage portions of your store’s inventory to micro fulfillment centers to reduce your cost of the last mile.”
The concept of a physical store is also allowing the logistics giant to create a physical brand presence experience for its consumers. This store has multifunctional aspects. Amazon Fresh is where the consumer can go to buy groceries, pick up Amazon packages, and find help with information on any Amazon device. Hence Amazon Fresh will be much more than a traditional grocery store.
Tough Competiton in This Field
It can be obviously concluded that with the kind of technology and experience that Amazon has in the online grocery sector, this new store will be an intimidating competitor for all pre-existing grocery stores in Hills, California. Other than this Amazon’s focus on affordability will allow it to go head to head with traditional grocers—another competitive advantage.
Amazon has another added edge over their competition because of their consistently low prices, convenience, and a great selection of products.
This new store by Amazon may very well be the prototype for the grocery stores of the future. To keep up with this challenge existing grocers will need to exceptionally update and improve their services. It won’t be long until Amazon’s will start setting up more stores worldwide. This is yet another example of Amazon’s restless jest for innovation and growth.
