IIT Kharagpur launches ICAR India sponsored online course on “Application of Digital Technologies in Agriculture.” It is started to train researchers for the use of smart technologies in India’s agricultural practices. The course aims to train students about the use of modern technologies in the agriculture sector. It includes artificial intelligence, drones, robots, machine vision techniques, computer-aided design, sensors, and advanced digital technologies applications in agriculture.
Specifications of this course
NAHEP-CAAST, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi has sponsored this online course on the Application of Digital Technologies in Agriculture. Also, the short-term course will be conducted by the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
In fact, the course is of great importance for all agriculture and food technology related to students. They can get to know about the future aspects of agriculture as well as the food sector. It will also be beneficial for those students who want to learn about robots, drones, sensors, and various other advanced digital technologies. IIT Kharagpur has provided a great platform for every machine and advanced technology enthusiast. All this modernization will lead to an increase in production, low labor cost, and an increase in the shelf life of food products as well.
“It is crucial to empower human resources with digital technologies in the field of agricultural science and technology, particularly in less-explored domains. The penetration of such knowledge will drive further R&D and create a culture to understand and expedite the adoption of advanced technologies in agricultural practices,” said Professor Rajendra Machavaram. He is the joint Principal Investigator of NAHEP-CAAST-IIT Kharagpur.
According to IIT Kharagpur, the NAHEP center is integrated into three interdisciplinary research divisions.
These are Agribots, Agri-Drones, and Agri-AGV’s based on four portfolios namely:
- Climate-based Digital Knowledge Support Centre
- Seed/Seedling Processing and Nursery Automation Centre
- Smart Portable Machinery Centre
- Food Processing Automation Centre. It predicts the enhancement of quality and relevance of agricultural higher education to the agricultural university students
The current course will pilot with the postgraduate and doctoral students, faculty members, and scientists who are from the Vasantarao Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Maharashtra.
